Pii-Tuulia Nikula

Associate Professor

I'm an Associate Professor at Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) in Napier, Aotearoa/New Zealand. I lecture on sustainable organisations and research methods. My research explores 1) climate mitigation, disclosures & SBTI engagement of NZ businesses; 2) education agent management & regulation, and 3) sustainability challenges across the export/international education sector. I have published a number of journal articles & co-edited two books, 'Sustainable Education Abroad: Striving for Change' and ‘Student Recruitment Agents in International Higher Education: A Multi-Stakeholder Perspective on Challenges and Best Practices’. I'm passionate about the research-industry nexus. I work closely with industry bodies, government agencies, and other professionals to support two-directional knowledge exchange. Before my academic career, I worked in leadership and management roles in international student recruitment. I'm an Associate Editor of Higher Education Research & Development, an editorial review board member of BEER (Business Ethics, the Environment & Responsibility), and a Co-Founder of an award-winning global climate action non-profit (CANIE). My governance experience includes private and non-profit boards. Currently, I serve in the editorial board of Higher Education Quarterly, as a Co-Chair of the Academic Advisory Board of CANIE, and in a local school board. I also co-chair the NZ International Education Researchers Forum and the NZ Applied Business Research Community of Practice.
